March, 2026 – New York, NY
Girls Write Now is proud to celebrate mentee Zai Rivera, who has recently been honored with a Gold Key by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her personal essay, “Mango.” The Scholastic Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. She also received an honorable mention for her poem, “Pulse.” Rivera’s Girls Write Now mentor, Rachel Cantrell, joined in celebrating her work at the ceremony.
Rivera will be reading “Mango” at the New York City Scholastic Awards Regional Gold Key Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Opening Reception, which will take place on March 27 from 6 PM – 8 PM ET. At the Reception, attendees can view artworks, film & animations, read writing works, and connect with fellow writers and artists. An Open Mic will be available for teen writers. More details will be emailed to Gold Key winners.
Her piece, alongside the rest of the Regional Gold Key Exhibition featuring award-winning art and writing work by teens from the New York City Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, will be on view at The Met from March 27 to May 17, 2026.
