Women and gender expansive comedians find a space for their talents at the “Let Me Finish! Voices of Comedy Showcase”

This past weekend, Girls Write Now mentors and mentees brought the house down at Let Me Finish! Voices of Comedy Showcase. Participants in the Power of Punchlines: Stand-Up Comedy for Change Journey have been exploring stand-up as a powerful tool for self-expression, and social impact throughout the Summer Cycle. The evening was hosted by Girls Write Now Teaching Artist and Stand Up! Girls board member Hollie Harper, and featured incredible performances by Journey members and professional comedians.

The evening kicked off with a set by Hollie Harper that warmed up the room nicely for the rest of the lineup. The performances included sets by Girls Write Now mentees Danielle Gould, Zabé Henry, Shreya Darji, and Ijeoma Asonye. Each emerging comedian had their own style and covered a broad swath of topics from immigration policies to road rage. The mentees weren’t the only ones with a comedic streak, as two mentors, Ellyn Mendenhall and Amanda Wiles, also gave stellar performances. The night was rounded out by the talents of three professional comedians: Amanda Gordon, Kenice Mobley, and Liv Talley.

The room was full of energy and pride as family members, friends, and the wider Girls Write Now and Stand-Up Girls NYC community gathered to celebrate the success of the Power of Punchlines participants.
