By Girls Write Now

Erica, a mentor alum, and iemi, a mentee alum, just joined the team!

Girls Write Now is excited to welcome our newest class of mentees and mentors for the 2018-2019 program year! This year, we increased enrollment by nearly 10% making this our largest class ever of 300 combined mentors and mentees. We are also thrilled to welcome two new staffers to the Girls Write Now family. Mentor alumna and veteran program leader Erica Silberman joins the team as the Director of Community Outreach, and mentee alumna iemi Hernandez-Kim (yes, that’s a lower case “i” in iemi) joins as Senior Community Outreach Coordinator. Get to know them with a quick Q&A!

“Girls Write Now has achieved so much over two decades, and provided countless girls with opportunities they normally wouldn’t have. I want to build on that and amplify the voices of the girls, make sure they’re front and center and reaching into every nook and cranny of our culture — emphasize how writing skills pave the path to college and career.” — Erica Silberman

“Fighting for one’s safety and identity has a tendency to unearth unshakable confidence. I believe self assurance is vital to everyone in every walk of life — especially to teenage girls who usually lack it…I hope I can bring a sense of calm security to the mentees at Girls Write Now and beyond.” — iemi Hernandez-Kim
