Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology
In partnership with Dutton Books, Dottir Press, and Amazon Literary Partnership, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce our newest publication, Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology. Available from Books Are Magic, McNally Jackson, and Amazon, the anthology is a multi-genre showcase from our 25th year of mentoring and training the next generation of young voices.

Do not read this book, unless you want to know what real humans are thinking. Taking poetic license to express things in ways that make AI fear it will be replaced by humans, the stories in these pages reflect the here and now: a collective urgency as the pandemic recedes, the world overheats, wars overwhelm, and the national discourse is conducted in a language far from love. In these pieces, cooking unites families, supermarkets become places of connection and adventure, neighbors evolve into mermaids as the sea levels rise, and every month nails are trimmed to cut down memory. The smallest gifts in life become impossible blessings of gratitude. There is a sense of battle with the norms and an understanding that things are not right, but they will be. This anthology is evidence of a future worth fighting for in which the long tradition of building community through the written word is upheld during the highs, lows, and everything in between.

Faces
“Faces” is about the way young women view themselves in a world that presents a single standard of beauty. These lyrics push back against those barriers and question the value systems from which they originate.
The Happenings at the Estate
This is an interactive reading/listening experience. Listen to the accompanying audio with headphones and read at your pace.
Double Vision
The newspapers called them “a monstrosity,” “sent from the devil himself,” “a burden to a mother.” But Judith just saw her twin sisters and a future where only one of them would survive.
Poetry Podcast: How A Poem Comes to Be
How does a poem come to be? Mentee Angie Galindo Perez reads her poem-in-progress, "Where I Am," and shares how she is crafting the piece.
Ye Olde Voicemaille
Have you ever wondered what would happen if medieval serfs had answering machines?
Spring Sunday
I first started out with just a rush of memories of the garden, then I organized those memories into seasons and turned five pages from my collage journal into representations of those seasons and memories.
A Generational Blessing
Oftentimes I tend to focus on generational curses, the bad traits I've received from my family. My piece reflects on this and the generational blessings passed down.
Zoom to the Moon
While writing this essay, my goal was to keep things lighthearted and tell an entertaining story that also shared a bit of my personality and interests.
Everyone’s a little bit GAY!!!
Are you a queer youth trying to navigate the waters of coming out? Do you enjoy hearing other people's coming out stories? Or do you just want to laugh at the innocence (and sometimes ignorance) of teenagers? Look no further, this podcast is meant for you!
the body: an examination
This poem comes from a page of “The Power to be Affected,” a philosophy essay by Michael Hardt. It is a work that first resonated with me at age 14.
