Meet the Teaching Artist

Janine Simon

Janine Simon

Janine Simon is a New York-based artist and the Program Manager at Urban Word NYC, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating the voices of young artists through spoken word poetry and literary arts. With a passion for storytelling and community engagement, Janine brings her artistic vision and leadership to Urban Word, where she helps create dynamic, culturally rich programs that inspire and empower the next generation of poets. An accomplished poet and educator herself, Janine has a deep understanding of the transformative power of the arts and has worked with youth across NYC to foster self-expression and creativity. Her work bridges the gap between art and activism, creating safe spaces for young people to explore identity, culture, and social justice through their craft. Whether organizing workshops, mentoring emerging talent, or leading high-impact events, Janine’s work is rooted in her commitment to making art accessible to all and uplifting the voices of her community.
