Welcome to Fundamentals of Editing! This course guides you through the process of editing your creative work. You’ll learn how to find readers for your work, avoid common grammatical mistakes, fighting imposter syndrome and more.
In addition to this course, you will meet with your pair for at least one hour-long session per month. Feel free to bring course material into your pair sessions if you’d like!
Mentees and mentors in the Perspectives on Editorial Journey must attend at least one Community Experience per month.
It is mandatory that you attend IVEdit (Intersectional Voices in Editorial) Digital Studios. In IVEdit – Digital Studios, we will focus on live editing a piece written by a mentee in the Perspectives on Editorial Journey.
To sign up for their work to be edited, mentees should use the sheet here.
If you cannot attend an IVEdit – Digital Studio for any reason, you can sign up for another Girls Write Now event in the Portal to meet the requirement.
Participants are also encouraged to attend IV Edit – Print studios, in which members of the IV Print Committee will discuss the process of editing the annual Girls Write Now Anthology.
Sign up for Studios through your Girls Write Now portal.
IVEdit – Digital Studios:
All Perspectives on Editorial mentees are required to submit 1 piece to be published on the Girls Write Now website (this can also be submitted to the anthology).
For questions about submitting, check out our FAQ here. Submit writing through your Girls Write Now Portal.
As a pair, you will be required to sign up for one office hour with Vahni Kurra during the cycle.
If you have questions about this course or the Perspectives on Editorial Journey, you can contact Vahni Kurra (vkurra@girlswritenow.org) or Emily Rigby (erigby@girlswritenow.org) on Slack or via email.
