This course is designed to help mentees and mentors chart their career path, land a job, explore unexpected career opportunities, and support your financial literacy as you embark on your career journey.

Perspectives on Public Policy

This course is designed to help develop a comprehensive understanding of public policy formulation, analysis, and evaluation. Specific topics range from the role of stakeholders in policy development to the impact of economic, social, and environmental factors on policy decisions.

Podcasting Fundamentals

This course is designed to help develop mentees' and mentors' overall knowledge of podcast genres and to get you started with basic podcast creation. Specific topics range from writing for an audio format to best recording practices at home.

College Readiness

In preparation for college success, develop essential skills across various domains: First, prioritize your academic journey by evaluating factors like campus environment, diversity, and extracurricular opportunities to ensure they align with your educational goals. Second, grasp the nuances of crafting a compelling personal statement, distinct from other essays, highlighting your academic achievements, community involvement, values, and future aspirations effectively.

Magical Realism

In this mini course, participants will explore magical realism as they deepen their understanding of the genre’s history and characteristics. Participants will read critically acclaimed pieces such as “Like Water for Chocolate” and “What the Jaguar Told Her” to familiarize themselves with techniques including world building and blurring the lines between surreal and mundane. By the end of the course participants will write their own take on magical realism by completing one of the two writing prompts provided.

Building Foundations for English Language Learners

This course supports the exploration of the mentee’s history, stories, and lived experiences in their second (or third) language! With the support of this course, mentees acquire concrete written skills needed to feel confident and excited to birth new worlds or convey their own in the English language! Mentees receive a robust but comprehensive look into grammar & vocabulary, receive instruction on proofreading their own work, and gain tips and tricks for engaging with literature.

In this 2-cycle journey, participants will explore the power of comedy as a tool for social change, with a special focus on stand-up comedy. From climate change and economic inequality to LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, and mental health, you'll learn how to write and perform material that blends humor with meaningful social critique. Through workshops and performance coaching, you’ll develop your own comedic voice. Discover how satire and personal storytelling can raise awareness, inspire dialogue, and challenge the status quo— all while keeping your audience laughing. By the end of the journey, you'll have developed a 5 -10-minute stand-up routine that not only entertains but sparks meaningful conversations about the world around us.
