In this session, we’ll explore food as a means of socio-economic commentary and a marker of status. We’ll begin with a brief prayer and writing prompt, and read poems by José Olivarez and Pablo Neruda. We’ll close with a fun writing exercise and sharing circle!
In this session, we’ll learn what a hermit crab essay in creative nonfiction is and try writing one. We’ll think about how everyday forms like college essays and postcards can become a conduit for our creativity for writing personal essays.

Join us for an in-person Pottery Painting Studio, open to all Bay Area Girls Write Now community members! On Saturday, September 27, from 7–9 PM, you’ll have the opportunity to paint your own pottery piece while connecting with other creatives from across the Bay Area.
Bring your personal statement (650 words max) to be workshopped and revised by Macmillan employees, who will serve as our Mentors of the Day.
In the next I.V. Teach Committee meeting, we’ll review the Mentor PD sessions we’ve hosted so far and brainstorm topics that are important and relevant for our community for future professional development.
