    Tell it Through Jokes: The Joys and Benefits of Stand-Up Comedy

    In this workshop, we will learn the basics of stand-up comedy writing, giving special attention to the ways stand-up can be a tool for activism and awareness around pertinent social issues. Participants will gain an understanding of thoughtful comedy writing, what not to do in stand-up, and how to intentionally engage audience members and will have the opportunity to write jokes either for themselves or for Teaching Artist and stand up comedian Annabel Young. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn that stand-up is a medium for everyone—a medium with multiple benefits and applications that has the power to change the world…one joke at a time.

    Co-creating Future: Augmented Reality As Crystal Ball

    In this workshop, inspired by the I Ching, an ancient text of Chinese wisdom and the world’s oldest oracle, artist and educator Zhenzhen Qi takes us through a variety of cultural divination practices to collectively design new or alternative patterns for fortune-telling. As a group, using the software development environment Lens Studio, we will code these patterns into a Snapchat AR filter to develop our own fortune-telling software experience. No prior software design or development experience is needed!

    Join girls and gender-expansive youth from the 10 organizations that comprise STARS for a breakfast panel to discuss the importance of wellness in ushering in a new generation of leaders. This STARS Citywide Girls Initiative Leadership Breakfast will feature a panel discussion with Council Member Linda Lee, President of United Way Grace Bonilla, writer and activist Natalie Henry, NYC Deputy Mayor Jasmine Ray, and Nike Director Jeanette Rodriguez.

This event will also feature a live DJ and food and drink. We’ll meet at Nike HQ to end our self-care celebration week!
