The 17 Moons

By The 17 Moons

A poem in the hope of having the audience grasp the meaning of a love letter. Not your usual love letter. As you read, the writer begins to build trust with the reader, the environment breathes, building the impact of the letter.

Write a love letter

Meet the standards

Express the love of this thing, place, item, person

Go in-depth of these emotions

A love letter

Must not lack these emotions

But sometimes can cause a commotion

In your mind

My love letter

Must be taken and flown with the wind

We must read it across the deepest length of the oceans

It must be sung to the swaying of the trees

It must run through the wind blowing the love away

The animals must imagine it so they can connect to it all day

Although I shouldn’t forget the people

It must be described with imagery to the people so they can feel emotions from away

And

Visualize

But to the moon, it must be written

Written well

Because it shines, providing, it’s listening to the poems, to the breaths, to the cries for help

It’s there

Staring down

We haven’t met, but I often see you

I take pictures to remember what phase I discovered you in

From new, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent

There’s never an exact feeling I can delineate you as

You make the goose-bumps along my skin rise

You make my cheeks turn red with all my acne, scars, and oily skin

My body turns cold becoming paralyzed at the moment, as the sweat drips off my palms

My fingers tremble all at once

All causing a stop in my pulse

This brings me to a high degree

Pulling you closer

A moment you build awareness, finding truth

A door you open

Built with my imagination, turning different colors, with different textures, shapes

My eyes flash with lights

Ready to explore

Knowing I felt like this before

I always feel this connection within my soul, spirit, emotional being, physical being

You don’t see me from the close but you know me from the far

You influence a character in me

Within me, to me, and through me

You hold my eyes with all your light

Capturing me in a moment

I neither run nor hide from these feelings but build a sense within

We are mature lovers

Deeply in love

Showing, sharing, expressing it every time

There is no doubt that we are beyond the years of ink I press on paper writing a love letter to you

Our love is timeless

But all needs to end

As my planet ends

Your planet is never-ending, your start is your end, your end is your beginning

We are a chemical reaction

Burning others around

The moon eclipsed

The human heart feels you

Surrounding yourself with more stars

You are my light

The stars around me

My sight of freedom

You are the moon

In a crescent

The love letter is written

Process

I honestly had been under pressure throughout the writing of this piece and felt as though I never spoke on the connection I carry with the moon. I also didn’t want to format my writing as a formal “love letter” because I feel as though the word love is disguised as death. My connection formed with the moon is through a deeper feeling than love so a deeper feeling than death. I love focusing my writing on confusion, causing the reader to always build connections and solve the way I am going with my writing. Hence why I always build an introduction on the background not giving away any topics or spoilers but then connecting the ending with a line from the beginning allowing a stronger focus.
