Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology
In partnership with Dutton Books, Dottir Press, and Amazon Literary Partnership, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce our newest publication, Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology. Available from Books Are Magic, McNally Jackson, and Amazon, the anthology is a multi-genre showcase from our 25th year of mentoring and training the next generation of young voices.

Do not read this book, unless you want to know what real humans are thinking. Taking poetic license to express things in ways that make AI fear it will be replaced by humans, the stories in these pages reflect the here and now: a collective urgency as the pandemic recedes, the world overheats, wars overwhelm, and the national discourse is conducted in a language far from love. In these pieces, cooking unites families, supermarkets become places of connection and adventure, neighbors evolve into mermaids as the sea levels rise, and every month nails are trimmed to cut down memory. The smallest gifts in life become impossible blessings of gratitude. There is a sense of battle with the norms and an understanding that things are not right, but they will be. This anthology is evidence of a future worth fighting for in which the long tradition of building community through the written word is upheld during the highs, lows, and everything in between.

From Under a Tree & the August Sun
I spent a lot of summer 2020 sitting underneath trees and trying to find the words to articulate what exactly I was feeling and not really being able to find the words. There's usually a real feeling of restlessness that accompanies summer for me and I think it was amplified by the pandemic.
Frankenstein!
Today, the term 'Frankenstein' invokes the image of a stitched-together, grotesque green monster that serves as a warning for the pitfalls of human innovation, but how did this creature first come about?
Find Home
Where is home? I must return.
Twitter Girls
"Twitter Girls" is a satirical experimental prose piece that deals with the insecurities of a young writer.
On Poetry
This is a vignette-style epistolary piece that relies on several different narratives to reflect on what it means to be a poet.
Passing the Time
In this collaborative pair project, we collected and reflected on the things that have helped us pass the time in—as we often hear now—such an unprecedented time.
As Queer as a Nine-Bob Note
The inner dialogue of two people who want the same thing.
Time Beyond The Line
An interactive piece hosted on a Java program, following a choose your own adventure story about being stuck in a time loop.
Central Park
I wrote this poem about my favorite park. It's a big milestone in my life because I went to this park as a child.
Stolen to be Given
Stolen to be Given is a piece connecting my name and religion. Two things that were chosen for me and their role in shaping my identity.
