Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology
In partnership with Dutton Books, Dottir Press, and Amazon Literary Partnership, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce our newest publication, Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology. Available from Books Are Magic, McNally Jackson, and Amazon, the anthology is a multi-genre showcase from our 25th year of mentoring and training the next generation of young voices.

Do not read this book, unless you want to know what real humans are thinking. Taking poetic license to express things in ways that make AI fear it will be replaced by humans, the stories in these pages reflect the here and now: a collective urgency as the pandemic recedes, the world overheats, wars overwhelm, and the national discourse is conducted in a language far from love. In these pieces, cooking unites families, supermarkets become places of connection and adventure, neighbors evolve into mermaids as the sea levels rise, and every month nails are trimmed to cut down memory. The smallest gifts in life become impossible blessings of gratitude. There is a sense of battle with the norms and an understanding that things are not right, but they will be. This anthology is evidence of a future worth fighting for in which the long tradition of building community through the written word is upheld during the highs, lows, and everything in between.

Stories from Inside Here & Now
Stories from Inside Here & Now
Yellow Roses
The perfect relationship is a facade. Always. Even when you think you know exactly how the other person is feeling, there is always a secret. Sometimes, that secret is pain.
Stormy stories
Because of a bad storm, the power went out, and my friends and I told ghost stories to each other. It was one story that warped my young, naive perception of class and wealth.
吃飯 New York
吃飯 (HEK-FAN) New York is a series of video essays that follows the format of an abecedary, documenting personal stories of food and culture between a pair of friends.
Letter to Myself
This piece was written to myself, and is a reflection of the self-hatred that I often feel as a teenage girl. It also depicts the enveloping and consuming nature of my anxiety.
Oatmeal Cookie
This piece is a very personal reflection of a time in my life where I felt a need to be more grounded and reevaluate my relationship with eating.
Last Drop on Her Green Eye
A fun camping night ended up as the worst night for all and last night for one.
Mother Nature
A mother should never suffer at the hands of her child, so what are we doing to our mother?
Baby Chick
When my sister left for college, she left behind a learning experience for me, one that resulted in a flock of lifelong companions.
Adult Adolescent in Limbo
Shortly after their admittance to the NYU Langone hospital for what began as unexplained dizziness, Dom turns 18, and they are confronted by reality cloaked in black fur.
Collective Rising Internship Personal Statement
This piece expresses my aspirations to advocate for abortion/reproductive rights and how writing has been fundamental in social impact.
