Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology
In partnership with Dutton Books, Dottir Press, and Amazon Literary Partnership, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce our newest publication, Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology. Available from Books Are Magic, McNally Jackson, and Amazon, the anthology is a multi-genre showcase from our 25th year of mentoring and training the next generation of young voices.

Do not read this book, unless you want to know what real humans are thinking. Taking poetic license to express things in ways that make AI fear it will be replaced by humans, the stories in these pages reflect the here and now: a collective urgency as the pandemic recedes, the world overheats, wars overwhelm, and the national discourse is conducted in a language far from love. In these pieces, cooking unites families, supermarkets become places of connection and adventure, neighbors evolve into mermaids as the sea levels rise, and every month nails are trimmed to cut down memory. The smallest gifts in life become impossible blessings of gratitude. There is a sense of battle with the norms and an understanding that things are not right, but they will be. This anthology is evidence of a future worth fighting for in which the long tradition of building community through the written word is upheld during the highs, lows, and everything in between.

Waking Up To You
Some people would run ten miles instead of confessing to their crush. Some people would never let that ridiculous thought enter their brain at all. If I don’t ask, I’ll never know the answer.
What am I made of?
This piece showcases not only the hardships I faced as a queer girl in a Christian household but how I overcame my self-doubt and learned to accept myself as I am.
Where I’m From
This is a poem about where I'm from as a 16-year-old, born and raised in Queens, New York in a small family of four.
Summer
A short story I wrote about one of my favorite memories from summer that blurred into my favorite dreams.
9 Weeks Until My End Of Year Algebra Exam – Here’s How I’ll Pass It
I have a big Algebra exam coming up at school so I need to get organized ASAP and study so I’m one step closer to my dream of going to medical school. Wish me luck!
The Long Winter
A short film about the daily lives of high school students following the Omicron outbreak.
Let It Sink In
“Let It Sink In” is a short montage film translation of a piece that I wrote revolving around teeth. It’s an exploration of love and relationships through using teeth metaphors and food/teeth imagery.
you, me, and the borough
Lena and Courtney are both New Yorkers—but they live in different boroughs: Brooklyn and Staten Island. After a year spent on Zoom, they gave one another tours of their respective corners of the city.
