About the Event

In this studio, writers will discover the surprising ways their pop culture obsessions — from their favorite TV show fandom, to the celebrity they can’t stop thinking about — can sharpen the skills needed for a creative career in journalism. Participants will practice identifying trends, conducting thoughtful interviews, and writing copy that conveys their unique perspective as a shrewd media consumer.

You have an idea for a culture essay or reported piece you’re excited about…now what? In this session, we’ll learn how to develop a compelling angle for your story and how to effectively pitch it to the blogs, magazines, and independent outlets you love. If you’ve been wanting to get your work out there but don’t know where to start, this is the studio for you!
