In this opening Journey meeting, participants will explore the rich history and cultural significance of zines as tools for storytelling, creative expression, and community building. Through discussions, examples from literary and activist zine traditions, and an introduction to editorial practices in poetry, participants will learn how thoughtful editing can strengthen a poem while honoring the writer’s unique voice. Participants will engage in a collaborative peer-editing activities, offering constructive feedback on one another’s work and reflecting on how individual poems contribute to a larger collective publication. By the end of the session, participants will have revised a poem, practiced essential editorial skills, and taken their first steps toward creating a community poetry zine together.
