Change Makers applies the metaphor of the marching band to develop participants’ self-assurance, communication, and leadership skills—no musical experience necessary. Through inventive and reflective writing prompts, we will explore methods for developing our characteristic sound: personal values, experiences, and goals, as well as methods for harmonizing with the whole. We’ll talk honestly about what it takes to lead yourself, lead your section, and lead within your community, expanding beyond our comfort zones through small, tangible steps. Whether it’s performing on a field or simply surviving a social function, applying a leader’s mindset can help us form more meaningful connections and drive us closer to our goals.
This opening session is about learning to lead, and trust, yourself first. We’ll draft a personal leadership philosophy, and share the real tools we use to stay organized and reliable.
