About the Event

This is a poetry generative writing workshop directed towards writers of all levels. We will meditate on different ways to perceive the way food nourishes, just like a poem does: through memory and survival, through gratitude, through synaesthesia, through love languages and through socio-economic commentary. Leave with at least one solid poem draft! You will have the opportunity to share your work and foster community. Writers who are experienced in other genres but new to the world of poetry are most welcome. We’ll also read authors from across demographics — no placeholder exists for an entire culture!

In this session, we’ll explore food as a means of survival, safety, and gratitude, tracing its journey from soil to plate as a product of care and labor. We’ll begin with a brief gratitude prayer, read poems by Naomi Shihab Nye and January Gill O’Neil, and close with a fun writing exercise and sharing circle.
