Whether you’re WordPress savvy or looking to learn more about online editorial systems, this group offers opportunities to dive into editorial tasks, outreach, and the publication of Girls Write Now Stories.
In this month’s session, participants will explore how writing poetry about identity, belonging, and community can be powerful acts of resistance. Through discussion and generative prompts, they will also uncover the ways in which creative expression can affirm selfhood, build empathy, and strengthen collective understanding.
Throughout this studio, we will learn about comedy writing and practice looking for a comedic angle in everyday events. The main focus for this second session will be creating personal, standup-style jokes inspired by the news.
Together, we’ll explore pairing visual art with poetry through the language of color. As we aim to use color theory as our guide, we’ll dive into the emotions and energies that different hues inspire.
In this session we explore low fantasy as a subgenre and discuss existing literature as our model for our own. Discover how changing small fantasy elements in a story can have a big impact.
This month, be prepared to learn about how easy zine creation can be (and what a zine is!) as well as how to pair photos and visual artwork with the written word to create something new and beautiful. No experience or supplies needed — just come prepared for a night of chill vibes and three or more of your own photos for this project.
This month, attendees will explore the importance of defining a brand’s voice, and how this can make a lasting impact, regardless of scale or growth.
Participants will learn how to reveal (and withhold) information for maximum impact, experiment with pacing and tone, and discover how to sustain suspense in any genre.
