Girls Write Now Mentee Alum Romaissaa Benzizoune continues to wow us with her writing, including her newest piece in The New York Times, “I’m Muslim, but My Roommate Supports Trump,” which follows her previously published Times story, “At the Beach in My Burkini” — a powerful story that came out over the summer. Romaissaa, who is currently attending New York University, talked to Girls Write Now recently about submitting her work to a national publication. Romaissaa says: “You can write the most powerful piece in the world — a piece that can change perspectives, contribute to a global debate, maybe even shift tectonic plates —but if it stays in your Google Drive it’s kind of irrelevant.” We’re proud of you, Romaissaa.
