2017 QWERTY DIGITAL MEDIA EXHIBITION: A SNEAK PEEK!

QWERTY Digital Exhibition is just around the corner and we wanted to give you a sneak peek of what will be exhibited!
Our Digital Media Mentoring Program mentees are beyond excited to debut the projects they have been working on all year at the Downtown Community Television Center on June 2. Their projects range from videos overlaid with original poetry to online games designed with code, and they showcase their spectacular writing and new digital media skills they have learned in the program. With the help of their mentors, our teens have created masterpieces! Take a look at some examples of their incredible work:

THE PROCESS BY CAROLINE LIN

“As unbelievable, heart shattering, and satisfying as it is, high school is ending for me. Since I have changed so much over the past four years, this website serves as a reflection on how I developed as a writer.” Caroline says about the website she designed. On her website, she’s included samples of writing, poems, and other creative pieces. She also integrates photography, another one of her passions.

TIME VS. REALITY VS. MY THOUGHTS BY MAXX CARR

Maxx was initially inspired by the YouTube video, “The Colour Bandits,” featuring KickthePJ acting out a poem. She decided to make her own video of herself reading poetry. Instead of acting it out, she filmed clips of her surroundings to go along with the poem. “I also decided to include music to incorporate my musical knowledge into my piece, as this is a multimedia project.”

 

PROMISED TEENAGE YEARS BY MARIFER SANTOS

With the help of Twine, an interactive storytelling generator, Marifer Santos puts her readers into the shoes of a high school student, leading the reader down different rabbit holes of social, racial, and stereotyping in society. “At the time of writing this piece, I was intrigued by the idea of how we as human beings often adapt to the behaviors of the people we choose to hang out with. Though its interactive capability, Twine was the perfect medium to allow the reader to experience the power play between different social groups first hand: who they chose to associate with in the story influenced their behavior and exposed them to stereotypes in society.”
