As we expand Stories, our digital storytelling platform, we are thrilled to introduce two outstanding artists from our community to lead the editorial vision of Girls Write Now.
(she/her) Alum | Editor-in-Residence
Kathryn is a nonprofit researcher and writer and also is the 2022-23 Editor-In-Residence for Girls Write Now. An only child from Harlem, NYC, Kathryn looks for community in many spaces centered on her interests such as cooking, comedy, Blackness, queerness and investigative journalism. She is a Girls Write Now mentee and is fascinated by film, media and writing as avenues for social advocacy and activism. As a young creative, she is excited to utilize various mediums to speak against injustice and share stories from marginalized voices.
Creativity is simultaneously a natural and rebellious human act. On the one hand, using our imaginations to comprehend the unknown and express ourselves is something humans have always done. On the other hand, we live in a society that censors the creative expression of the marginalized communities I identify with. My writing is meant to serve as a testament to the natural rebellion present in all us. I hope my readers will see this in my work and will feel moved to make their own art.
