“The Girls Write Now workshops pushed me to write on the spot, without scrutinizing all of my mistakes, and opened my eyes to a community of girls who passionately and pridefully read their pieces.” — Moie Uesugi, mentee
As the Saturday sunshine filters into our midtown Manhattan writing center, clusters of girls and their mentors eagerly enter the room, grab a seat and some coffee, and prepare for an inspiring session of creative exploration and intensive collaboration: without a doubt, it’s a workshop day at Girls Write Now.
Our workshops are a no-holds-barred space where girls and their mentors to put pen to paper and transform all those imagined possibilities into real-life creative projects.
Working side-by-side with the guidance and encouragement of our workshop leaders and an incredible group of guest authors, these women writers let it all out on the page.
From September through May we held six workshops, each one exploring the intricacies of a new genre: family history, travel writing, site-specific playwriting, and even fan fiction.
Now you can explore the workshops for yourself! See our girls’ standout pieces, watch videos and learn the craft, and read reflections from mentees, mentors, and guest authors.
