Welcome to the Facilitator’s Toolkit for GWN Mentee Affinity Groups! We’re so glad you’re here.
This course is designed to equip Affinity Group Facilitators with the essential tools and skills needed to create supportive spaces for individuals linked by shared identities, ideologies, or interests. You will explore key concepts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) while learning to foster an atmosphere of respect and openness. Throughout the course, you’ll be prepared to inspire meaningful connections among group members, advocate for their shared interests, and cultivate an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
Specific topics range from Facilitation Fundamentals, such as communication styles and conflict resolution, as well as DEIB terminology, experiences, and applicable strategies.
Learning Objectives
- Develop Facilitation Skills: Demonstrate effective facilitation techniques, including active listening, adaptive communication styles, and strategies for managing group dynamics and conflicts.
- Understand DEIB Concepts: Articulate key principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and their significance in creating supportive affinity group environments.
- Foster Inclusive Discussions: Create and implement strategies to encourage open, respectful dialogue among group members, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
- Advocate for Shared Interests: Learn to identify and advocate for the shared interests and needs of group members, promoting collective action and community building.

Mentorship
You are in one of the following pair types. Your pair type is listed on your GWN Portal profile.
- Type 1: Mentor/Mentee: Meet 2-3 times per month and, as a pair, attend one of the engagement events listed below at least once per month.
- Type 2 : Peer-to-Peer: Meet 2 times per month and, as a pair, attend one of the engagement events listed below at least once per month.
