Aparna is an experienced development professional and an MPA graduate from Columbia University. She has worked in international development, social enterprise consulting, and corporate finance at organizations such as UNICEF, Net Impact, McKinsey & Company, Upaya Social Ventures, and with local nonprofits in India and the US. At Columbia University, Aparna focused her studies on Economic and Political Development, specializing in Gender and Public Policy issues. These experiences exposed her to multi-faceted systemic inequalities and the urgent need to share power with those who suffer under oppressive political, economic, and social systems.Aparna strives to break oppressive systems through her Secretariat position with the Society of Gender Professionals, USA, a nonprofit network and organization of gender practitioners, academics, and activists dedicated to promoting feminist action and applied research, and raising the profile of gender expertise. She also co-leads monthly discussions for the Breaking Gender and Sex Binaries Circle at the organization.
