Mareesa Nicosia is an independent journalist and freelance writer based in New York’s Hudson Valley. She writes most often about marginalized children and young adults and the intersecting policies—educational, environmental, political and economic—that shape their lives. Her work has been published by The Atlantic, Wired, Fortune, The Huffington Post and other outlets. Beyond journalism, Mareesa provides writing, research and editing services to mission-driven brands, nonprofits and universities on a contract basis. When she’s not writing, she’s likely on a run, a hike or tending to her many houseplants.
