Who says writing has to be a solitary activity? We’re excited to announce that former Girls Write Now mentor Kathleen Kraft will be teaching a yoga and journaling workshop at Strala Yoga in Soho. The workshop, to be held on August 15th, will be the vehicle to explore personal truth by tuning into the body and writing your experience both on and off the mat. Prompts and the opportunity to free write will be offered. We’re excited to stretch and write together, and we hope you’ll join us there.
Kathleen, whose chapbook of poems, Fairview Road, was published in February 2015, has been a longtime supporter of Girls Write Now and her experience as a mentor continues to inspire her work as a poet, yoga teacher and a freelance writer. Kathleen and her mentee Sara had an immediate connection because Sara was born in Albania and Kathleen had spent a year working in Kosovo in an entirely Albanian city. Kathleen reflects, “We were able to re-explore parts of our pasts together, and write poems about them as well, something neither of us had done before.” Kathleen still carries the courage and vulnerability of our girls’ writing with her, and is excited to collaborate with us in an event that bridges her passions for writing and yoga.
If you’re at all interested in exploring yoga, free writing, and the intersection of the two, we encourage you to join us for this exciting workshop. All levels of writers and yogis are welcome, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards funding our program. Catch y’all in child’s pose on the 15th!
