Friday Night Salon
Friday Night Salons at GWN are engaging virtual live events where a special guest author hosts an intimate session with mentees, mentors, and guest attendees. The author shares their personal and professional journey, offering insights and inspiration. Throughout the evening, the author guides participants through a series of writing prompts, fostering creativity and reflection. These salons provide a unique opportunity for close-up interaction with the author, allowing participants to connect directly with a literary professional in a supportive and inspiring environment. Friday Night salons are open to the public.
College & Career Chats
College and Career Chats are essential virtual live events at GWN that connect youth with industry professionals and partners. These sessions offer valuable insights into various career paths and fields of study, providing participants with direct access to expert advice and guidance. Through these interactions, youth can explore potential career opportunities, gain exposure to different industries, and begin building their professional networks, laying the foundation for future success. Mentor Professional Development
Mentor Professional Development Sessions at GWN are vital live events focused on equipping mentors with a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge. Beyond mentoring best practices, these sessions delve into DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) aspects, enhancing mentors’ ability to foster inclusive and supportive environments. In “Change”, the third and last part of the series, “Joy, Resistance, and Change”, we read work that explores cultural storytelling that differs from the dominant narrative about one’s culture, and then have practice writing our own.

This month, we'll explore strategies for writing about other people in creative nonfiction by viewing and discussing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Danger of a Single Story” and Philip Lopate’s “Ethics of Writing About Other People.” Then you’ll get a chance to practice through a writing prompt.
