Open to all mentees, mentee alum and Minute Media employees
Sometimes just getting to school or work each morning, even if it’s on Zoom, necessitates a great game-plan and the support of offensive linemen! Will we crawl into bed at night relishing our Heisman Trophy, or playing back our errors on a loop?
This workshop is a fun and accessible point of entry into sports journalism, or… the personal statement for college applications. Learn how to hit a home run with your writing by transforming your observations of daily obstacles and the strategies you use to overcome them, into a joyous game worthy of detailing on the page. Minute Media employees (Mentors for the Day) and Girls Write Now mentees will crack open their days to find humor and insight in fighting for bathroom time in the morning, trying to avoid maskless strangers on the train, striking the right tone in a meeting with their boss, or simply keeping up with the deluge of DMs, text messages, and emails. Participants bond over the banal yet intimate moments of each other’s lives, finding commonality across generations and backgrounds. FYI – The TA for this workshop knows a thing or two about strategies to score a run, having served as captain of the Williams College softball team.
Minute Media employees (Mentors for the Day) will join the session 15 minutes early for a mentor huddle, to ensure that they’re game time ready!
For 25 years, Girls Write Now has been breaking down barriers of gender, race, age and poverty to mentor the next generation of writers and leaders who are impacting businesses, shaping culture and creating change. Thank you for joining our movement.
