online event, open to the public and all mentees & mentors
Poetry has the power to change someone’s day, their mind and even the world. It is the articulation of dreams and hopes. Who better to honor with poems than Martin Luther King Jr. who shared his dream in the form of poetry?
Influenced by Audre Lorde’s belief in using the pen to fight the fight, join spoken word artist Brittany Barker as she shares her poetry and invites you to write your own.
Brittany Barker is an educator, poet and the creative director of Creative Soul House. She’s served in education for 8 years, as a humanities instructor, curriculum designer and a Dean of Programs where she spearheaded schoolwide youth and adult-development initiatives for enrichment and socio-emotional learning. Brittany has been recognized by the Walton Foundation for her leadership in transformative arts education and currently curates holistic and social-justice experiences for schools and organizations in local NY communities.
