Good Mystery v. Bad Mystery: There should be a good mystery in any story you write, no matter the genre. In this session, we’ll explore ways mystery manifests in stories, both good and bad, the DOs and DON’Ts, and how writers can master the mystery in their story.

In this session, we will explore how poets give shape to love. Through close readings and writing exercises, we will discover how love can become a language of memory, of showing grace, and of transformation.

In this session, participants will learn about artifacts from the future. They will read a fictional letter from the future and create their own artifact and headline from the future.

Friendship isn’t always how it is in the movies or social media. Join us for a discussion on how we manage and cherish our real-life friendships.

During this session, we’ll immerse ourselves in the world of artistic expression by learning about how artists use physical utensils (pen/paper/color) and digital art platforms (such as Canva, Krita, or another digital art platform of choice) to give form to fears, hopes, and experiences. First, we will observe and discuss a few art pieces. Following this, participants will engage in a drawing activity of their own.

In this session, we will deepen the connection between observation and emotional processing, showing how noticing external details can clarify internal feelings. We’ll also address the mental health benefits of this approach, including grounding, reduced stress, and clearer emotional understanding.

In this session we will continue to write from prompts, giving space for everyone to write and share their work. These prompts can inspire both personal narrative and fictional writing.

In this lesson, participants will explore the different “types” of writing with change and how they can optimize their chosen mode of writing.

What makes a scene? We’ll learn the format and practice writing for the specific way a scene is created as a puzzle piece for a full length film to come together.

Movers, Shakers, and Money Makers! In this session, we’ll discuss strategies for researching scholarships, applying for jobs, and budgeting effectively.

In this month’s session, participants will explore how writing poetry about identity, belonging, and community can be powerful acts of resistance. Through discussion and generative prompts, they will also uncover the ways in which creative expression can affirm selfhood, build empathy, and strengthen collective understanding.

Throughout this studio, we will learn about comedy writing and practice looking for a comedic angle in everyday events. The main focus for this second session will be creating personal, standup-style jokes inspired by the news.

Together, we’ll explore pairing visual art with poetry through the language of color. As we aim to use color theory as our guide, we’ll dive into the emotions and energies that different hues inspire.

In this session we explore low fantasy as a subgenre and discuss existing literature as our model for our own. Discover how changing small fantasy elements in a story can have a big impact.

This month, be prepared to learn about how easy zine creation can be (and what a zine is!) as well as how to pair photos and visual artwork with the written word to create something new and beautiful. No experience or supplies needed — just come prepared for a night of chill vibes and three or more of your own photos for this project.

This month, attendees will explore the importance of defining a brand’s voice, and how this can make a lasting impact, regardless of scale or growth.
