Hello!
My name is Kamaria Williams (she/her) and I’m a new mentee at Girls Write Now. I started screenwriting in freshman year when I took an intro screenwriting course. I immediately became obsessed with this new style of writing and wanted to make a career out of it. Admittedly, I still have a lot to learn but my most recent experience was writing a draft of a short film over the summer at LMU Pre-College.
Honestly, my favorite components of a script is the amount of detail added. I personally enjoy the fragmentary sentence style since I find it way less intimidating than prose. Screenwriting gives me more freedom to paint the story I want to tell without all the added details typical in prose. Additionally, I don’t need to worry about dialogue formatting or anything. What excites me the most about Script 360 is gaining the knowledge I need to improve my own screenplays! Overall, this form of writing is easy and fun and I can’t wait to improve.
Side note: I would really love to learn playwriting if that’s possible. I have no experience with that and I honestly really want to learn. So if I can learn, I can’t wait to start that!
