Maya Nussbaum joins Diane von Furstenberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and more inspiring women on Politics NY and amNY Metro’s list of Power Women for 2022. This list honors women across industries who are blazing the trail for more to follow in their footsteps.
Maya started Girls Write Now to break down the barriers of gender, race, age, and poverty by mentoring the next generation of writers and leaders. From the beginning, she understood that writing is a communal enterprise, and the true power of mentorship to access and elevate voices unheard. The program she built allows mentees to have total creative and editorial control with opportunities to write, edit, and curate work for digital and print platforms. Mentees have gone on to become critical communicators who shape the organization’s curriculum and editorial direction, while also playing key roles that will influence companies across industries. By prioritizing the creative, editorial, and professional aspirations of Girls Write Now participants, Maya has cultivated a leadership style that allows girls and gender expansive youth to take center stage.
