In our Community Chat, Writing Our Way Through War: Poetry for Processing, Mentor Vera Sirota began drafting a poem in response to the invasion of Ukraine. What started as a couple verses is now a stunning piece published in Ukrainian American Poets Respond, a new anthology available from Barnes & Noble and Amazon. In total, Vera has three pieces that are featured in the book, alongside the work of 28 other Ukrainian American poets.
On Friday Sept 16, 2022, the Ukrainian Institute of America, Yara Arts Group and Poets of Queens will launch the book Ukrainian American Poets Respond with live readings from the anthology. The anthology, released in August, began with two virtual readings, in the spring of 2022, when poets voiced their poetic responses to the war Russia waged on Ukraine. The poets participating in the book launch include: Judith Baumel, Lila Dlaboha, Anna Frajlich, Luba Gawur, Bob Holman, Olga Livshin, Kristina Lucenko, Valya Dudycz Lupescu, Vasyl Makhno, Ronald Meyer, Krystia Nora, Dzvinia Orlowsky, Maria Rewakowicz, Oksana Rosenblum, Ksenia Rychtycka, Vera Sirota, Christina Turczyn, and Genya Turovskaya.
The book launch will take place at the Ukrainian Institute of America, 2 East 79th Street @Fifth Avenue in New York City on Friday Sept 16, 2022, at 7PM. Tickets are $10/free for UIA members.
