Girls Write Now mentees attended NBCUniversal’s two-day Career Inspiration Camp.
New York, NY – July 24-25, 2024
As part of our partnership with NBCU, Girls Write Now mentees were invited to the NBCUniversal offices at 30 Rock for a two-day Career Inspiration Camp. The camp was open exclusively to high school students entering junior or senior year who are participants in Girls Write Now or Step Up.
On the first day, mentees got a tour of the NBCUniversal Studios and sat down with media mentors for informational lunches. The fun continued on the second day when mentees took a seminar on portrayals of women in media at the Paley Center and also got their creative juices flowing in a vision boarding activity with NBCU mentors.
“The NBCU Career Inspiration Camp was one of the best opportunities I’ve gotten in my life,” Girls Write Now mentee Janiya McCray said. “The view of city, the people, the tours of the different places they filmed and the many different interactions with the workers of NBCU and other camp attendees was just amazing. I am very grateful to be given the chance to attend!”
Mentees left the career camp with new friends, insights about their unique skillsets, and inspiration for their future career journeys.
“My favorite part was when we had informational interviews with professionals over lunch because I got to learn so many unique jobs that the media/entertainment industry has to offer, as well as general tips needed to succeed in any career,” mentee Sophia One said.
