The Fiction Journey is an immersive package designed for writers eager to explore the art and techniques of short story creation. Whether a seasoned writer or new to fiction, this program offers a structured environment to develop and refine one’s storytelling skills.

Time:
3 hours per month

Requirements:
- Complete at least three short stories by the designated deadline.
- Submit one piece to be published on the Author Page/Girls Write Now’s website.
- Attend at least 1 Community Experience per month.
- Complete at least 2 pair sessions per month.
Fiction Journey Package
As a mentee or mentor in the Fiction Journey, you’ll have access to a collection of lessons designed to help you craft the perfect short stories. You’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least twice each month. You’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month – there are many to choose from to accommodate all of your interests and everyone’s schedules.
Fiction Courses
Participants will engage in a series of workshops and guided sessions focused on key aspects of short story writing. Courses within “Narrative Snapshots: Crafting Short Stories” cover these topics and more:
- Introduction: Defining the Short Story
- Short Story Theory
- Writing Tips
- Revision

Fiction Mentoring
Mentees and mentors in the Fiction Journey will be matched for one cycle. Mentoring requirements depend on pair type:
Peer-to-Peer: Meet 2 times per month and, as a pair, attend an engagement event at least once per month.
Mentor/Mentee: Meet 2-3 times per month and, as a pair, attend an engagement event at least once per month.
The Fiction Journey requires a cycle-long commitment to a mentorship relationship. If you’d like to mentor but cannot commit to a full cycle, click here.
Fiction Community Experiences
Mentees and mentors in the Fiction Journey must attend at least one Community Experience per month, such as Exploratory Community Studios, Affinity Group Meetings, College & Career Chats, and Salon Experiences.

Multigenre 360 Adventure
The Fiction Journey belongs to the Multigenre 360 Adventure.
Journeys in this 360 Adventure focus on writing in a particular genre. It is perfect for mentees and mentors who want to focus on a specific kind of creative writing.
