The Zine Production Journey is an initiative to create a short print publication centered around a specific theme. Mentees and mentors who participate in this Journey will focus their creativity on designing written pieces of nonfiction, fiction, or poetry to be printed the next edition of Girls Write Now’s zine series, Take Me With You.
This cycles’ zine will be focused on the theme of Nature. Pieces will discuss observations of the natural world and our natural selves.
Learning Objectives
- Know and understand the history of zines as a revolutionary publication
- Analyze what the word ‘natural’ means to you
- Create and edit a piece of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry
- Design the layout for your piece
- Contribute to cover design options for Take Me With You, Issue #3

Requirements:
- Have at least 1 pair sessions each month
- Attend at least 1 Community Experience per month
- Complete Revolutionary Storytelling: Creating Our Zine Course
- Submit 1 completed piece to be publishing in Take Me With You, Issue #3
- Submit 1 completed layout design for your written zine piece
Zine Production Package
As a mentee or mentor in the Zine Production Journey, you’ll have access to an online course designed to help you learn about the history of zines and explore what the theme of ‘nature’ means to you. You’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least once each month. You’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month and are encouraged to attend monthly Zine Production Journey meetings.
Zine Production -Courses
As a mentee or mentor in the Zine Production Journey, you’ll have access to an online course designed to help you learn about the history of zines and explore what the theme of ‘nature’ means to you.

- Revolutionary Storytelling: Creating Our Zine
This course will outline the history of zines as a revolutionary form of publication, explore the meaning of nature as a theme, and introduce basic graphic design concepts.

Zine Production Mentoring
As a mentee or mentor in the Zine Production Journey, you’ll be paired with a mentee or mentor for one full cycle, and you’ll meet with them at least once each month.
This Journey requires mentees and mentors to commit to one pair session per month. If you’d like to mentor but cannot commit to this requirement, click here.
Zine Production Community Experiences
As a mentee or mentor in the Zine Production Journey, you’ll attend at least one community engagement experience a month and are encouraged to attend monthly Zine Production Journey meetings (Dates TBD).

Publish 360 Adventure
The Zine Production Journey is a part of the Publish 360 Adventure.
