Here at Girls Write Now, we’re powered by dedicated and passionate volunteers like our Board of Directors. Providing guidance on all things Girls Write Now, we couldn’t do it without these ladies, and this month we’re excited to officially welcome on board two new members.
Erica Mui is an Associate in Global Capital Markets at Morgan Stanley, working with corporate and financial clients to help manage their interest rate and foreign exchange exposures. In addition to her daily responsibilities, she is also actively involved in the training and recruiting efforts for GCM. Erica has served on the Girls Write Now Finance & Audit committee, and consulted with us through Youth, I.N.C. on strategic planning. Erica also helped to spearhead this summer’s college prep resume writing workshop with Morgan Stanley.
Gloria Jacobs, a journalist, editor, and author, joins the Board of Girls Write Now following many years as the Executive Director of the Feminist Press and the Executive Editor of Ms. magazine. Gloria is the co-author of Re-Making Love: The Feminization of Sex, with Barbara Ehrenreich and Elizabeth Hess, and a former consultant to UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women. She has worked with many major literary authors including Marilyn French, Jessica Hagedorn, bell hooks, Barbara Kingsolver, Toni Morrison, Robin Morgan, Taslima Nasrin, and Arundhati Roy. Her articles have appeared in publications from The New York Times, New York Daily News, The Guardian (UK), Mother Jones, and New York Woman.
Says Gloria:
“As a longtime feminist and writer, I’ve been awed by Girls Write Now’s accomplishments ever since I first heard about how it so successfully combines writing and girls’ empowerment. The GWN reputation extends across multiple generations: When I told my daughter I was joining the Board, she was pretty impressed with me — and that usually takes a lot. I hope I can use my experience, values, and skills to live up to GWN’s expectations — and my daughter’s.”
The next time you see Gloria and Erica, be sure to welcome them to our community!
