Poetry 360 is a learning journey in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Program focused on cultivating gratitude and change through poetry.
Over the past year, mentees in the Poetry 360 program worked collaboratively to build their capacity for wonder, gratitude, and resilience by engaging with Ross Gay’s Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, writing poetry in response, then performing as a podcast.
A Fistful of Verse: Zine and Podcast
Introducing A Fistful of Verse, a podcast made in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Program and Girls Write Now. From limericks about New York City nights to a passionate spoken word piece about the shortcomings of representation, these poems take us on journeys to new worlds.
Write Hope At the End of A World with Ross Gay
Ross Gay, award-winning poet and author of The Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, hosted a Friday Night Salon with Girls Write Now that allowed us to imagine and embody new worlds through the reflective practice of gratitude. “One of the most important things we can do as writers, as people, is to practice being in community,” Ross Gay told us. The Art of the Craft: An Evening of Poetry, Podcasting & Storytelling
On April 12, members of the Girls Write Now community and the public took to the Stavros Niarchos Rooftop Terrace Event Center at The New York Public Library for an evening of poetry, podcasting & storytelling. Poetry 360 mentees and two teens from the Stavros Niarchos Teen Center performed their pieces, and we held a listening party for Poetry 360’s newly-launched podcast, A Fistful of Verse. Each attendee also received NYPL tote bags, which included our 25th anniversary book, Girls Write Now On the Art of the Craft: A Guidebook to Collaborative Storytelling, available from HarperOne.
