In honor of Black History Month, I have written a piece that reflects on everyday reminders of slavery. I draw an unconventional parallel between my life and the experience of an enslaved woman.
Class of 2020
sororicide
For class, I had the task of writing a monologue. But as an avid horror fan, I went off the rails. That’s how sororicide happened. Writing horror serves as an outlet for me, to create a world where this fictional horror is the only scary thing in the world.
the brighter sun
This piece unintentionally secured itself a special place in my heart. It reflects my feelings, my aspirations, and my hope that this new country will allow me to embrace my new place in history.
Dark Clouds With A Silver Lining
I wrote this piece because I know how difficult it can be to succeed when dealing with unfortunate circumstances, like death or teenage pregnancy. It’s assumed that these events are setbacks. I want people to know that despite hardship and difficulties, they can achieve anything.
Berlin, eternally
Despite dating back to the thirteenth century, Berlin is such a mysteriously modern place. It was destroyed by bombs. And so, in the city, you feel the weight of these ghosts. Their blood suspended in the air: an anti-war cry. An anthem. A glimmer of hope.
Every Shade of Blue
Don’t be afraid to get in touch with the deepest of your emotions, even the heartbreaking ones. There are oceans in you if you learn how to swim.
Beauty
This poem emphasizes the beauty of tomorrow’s uncertainty. Anything could happen tomorrow so we might as well just do whatever our hearts desire and enjoy the ride until it lasts!
Valentine’s Day
Each year I become a victim to the elaborate scheme that is Valentine’s Day propaganda, getting unreasonably self-conscious when the day never goes as planned. But my friends have made me realize that I can be loved without romance involved.
More than 71 inches
Yes, we are all either short, average, or tall, but there is more to us than height. It’s about who we are on the inside. Look into the interior and less at the exterior. We are all perfect the way we are. We are never too this or that.
Scars
Acne is not permanent; it will go away eventually. But there are also scars that can’t go away—they stay with you forever. In my piece, I decided to elaborate on this concept by explaining that not all scars can disappear, but we have the opportunity to embrace them, love ourselves for who we are as human beings, and not let society dictate our beauty.
Arabian Soundbites
My podcast trailer stands for what I stand for: music, respect, and equality. Creating this trailer, I felt a warm light in my heart and mind as I commemorated one of the strongest women: Whitney Houston. If I felt something when making it, I assure that you will feel something when you hear it, and that is a promise.
4 Very Unfiltered Teen Girls
The idea to create this piece came from a late night with my friends. Past 2 a.m., we had a lot on our minds and needed to get some things off our chests. I used the app Anchor to produce this trailer, along with GarageBand to pre-record audio. On Anchor, I added sound for the intro/outro and to set the mood of the podcast. The original segment was actually longer than the trailer, so I had to edit it to capture the energy of the podcast.

This Is Me
This is a small video filled with pictures, memories, and things I enjoy. As you navigate through this short video of some of the things that make me who I am, you might find that we are alike in more ways than one.
