Poet and Girls Write Now honoree alum Rupi Kaur gave Girls Write Now a shout out on the Kelly Clarkson Show in honor of International Day of the Girl.
October 11, 2024 – New York, NY
In honor of International Day of the Girl, poet and Girls Write Now honoree alum Rupi Kaur gave Girls Write Now a shout out during her appearance on the Kelly Clarkson show.
When asked about working with young women on writing, Kaur said, “One [organization] I love working with is called Girls Write Now.” She continued: “The advice I give is: Write like nobody is looking first and foremost. Because writing is a place to go to strengthen your relationship with yourself so don’t censor, don’t self-edit, and the rest will fall into place.”
Earlier this month, Kaur sat down with Founder & Executive Director of Girls Write Now, Maya Nussbaum, for a conversation about milk and honey‘s 10th anniversary at the New York Public Library.
Kaur’s commitment to Girls Write Now dates back to 2016, when she spoke at our Found Workshop. In 2018, she invited mentees to hear her perform, and in 2020, we honored her at our awards ceremony. Kaur also wrote the blurb for our recently-published anniversary release, Girls Write Now On The Art Of The Craft: A Guidebook To Collaborative Storytelling (HarperOne, 2024). Read below:
I don’t think we can wait for inspiration to strike. I think that we are more powerful than that. We all have magic within us and it’s always there for us to tap into. I have so much love for Girls Write Now for creating a space where you feel empowered to chase whatever in the world you want to chase, because I truly believe and know that it’s yours.
