“My whole life has been supported by the gift of being given the space to tell stories. Seeing these brilliant and driven young women take on the world through words gives me so much hope for the future, both of television and the world.” — Jenni Konner, executive producer and writer, HBO’s “Girls” and co-founder, LennyLetter.com.
Join us for the 2016 Girls Write Now Awards on May 17. We invite you to spend the evening honoring three leaders who are paving the way for the next generation of young women writers, celebrate the release of (R)evolution: The 2016 Girls Write Now Anthology, and support the rollout of a three-year strategic plan to double the number of girls we serve, and to enrich and extend our college prep and alumnae services.
Honorees include: Jenni Konner, executive producer, writer and director for HBO’s Girls and co-founder of LennyLetter.com, Janet Mock, author of Redefining Realness and host of MSNBC’s So POPular!, and John Osborn, President & CEO of BBDO New York, creators of the Barbie “Imagine the Possibilities” Campaign. Alicia Menendez, anchor and special correspondent for Fusion, will serve as our emcee for the evening. The event will include a reception with open bar and hors d’oeuvres, the Awards ceremony, a performance by a Girls Write Now mentor-mentee pair, and a live opportunity to support our future.
Purchase tickets for the event, and for more information about sponsorship, program ad opportunities, or to make a donation, please contact Emily Morgan at [email protected] or 212-336-9330.
“Only in telling my story have I been able to step into my power as my own protagonist so I recognize how vital Girls Write Now is, giving a brilliant generation of young sister-writers the tools, encouragement and power to see themselves as the heroines of their own stories.” — Janet Mock, TV host and New York Times bestselling author of “Redefining Realness.”
“Creativity, storytelling and brilliant writing powers our industry and the world at large. The work Girls Write Now is doing to nurture the talent of the next generation is both inspiring and vital. We’re humbled to support those who create the narrative.” — John Osborn, President and CEO of BBDO NY, creators of the Barbie “Imagine the Possibilities” campaign
“When the women of Girls Write Now walked into our writers’ room they filled the room with verve. As we shared stories and ideas, it was clear through their contributions that these were young women of unlimited potential, buoyed by the support of a community.” — Alicia Menendez, anchor and special correspondent at Fusion.
