The New York Times explored what it is like to be an 18-year-old girl today from the perspective of young women from around the world, including former Girls Write Now mentee Maryclare Chinedo. As Maryclare puts it: “I first felt like a grown-up when my mom let me go to the after-prom party. My mom doesn’t let me go anywhere, at all. I would never be able to go to the parties my friends invited me to in high school, but she let me go to this one. I guess it’s because she knows that I’m 18 and I’ll be going to college soon.”
