If you are new to Girls Write Now, welcome! Let’s champion the next generation of women writers and leaders together. Quite simply, your gift of any amount will change the landscape of the future.
Girls Write Now is meeting an unprecedented demand for our writing and mentoring programs, and we are serving nearly 40% more girls. Our girls are over 90% high need, 95% girls of color, and over 75% immigrant or first generation. The outcome of our work? 100% of Girls Write Now seniors are accepted into college. A quick glance at the colleges our mentees attend: Hunter, Harvard, and Howard. Need more evidence? How about writing that is critically acclaimed by The New York Times, Kirkus, Newsday, Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, The Millions and published in our new anthology from Tin House.
The Times Square billboards showcase Write Now champions Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, Creators & Stars of Comedy Central’s Broad City; Samhita Mukhopadhyay, Executive Editor of Teen Vogue; and Phoebe Robinson, NYT bestselling author of Everything’s Trash But It’s Okay and HBO’s 2 Dope Queens flanking mentors and mentees Tuhfa Begum, Maxx Carr, Stacy China, Ashley Christie, Jolie-Amour DuBose-Morris, Analise Guerrero, Rahat Huda, Alexandrea Klimoski, Catherine LeClair, Chana Porter, Tiffani Ren (pictured right), and Josleen Wilson.
Thank you to our friends at ThoughtMatter for designing the billboards, and to Strictly Media for this amazing opportunity. “The confidence to speak up and be heard above all the loud, angry voices out there these days is power to the Nth degree,” said ThoughtMatter founder Tom Jaffe. “Girls Write Now is doing us all a tremendous service by supporting the next generation of women as they speak up for themselves. We’re proud to be on their team. I can’t imagine any creative person who wouldn’t kill to design a huge billboard in Times Square. And the best part is, we got to do it for the good guys, er, girls.”
You can see the billboards December 17 through January 1 at 729 7th Ave (on the southeast corner of 7th Ave and 49th St) and 3 Times Square (on 42nd St between 7th Ave & Ave and at the corner of 42nd St and 7th Ave).
