Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology
In partnership with Dutton Books, Dottir Press, and Amazon Literary Partnership, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce our newest publication, Here & Now: Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology. Available from Books Are Magic, McNally Jackson, and Amazon, the anthology is a multi-genre showcase from our 25th year of mentoring and training the next generation of young voices.

Do not read this book, unless you want to know what real humans are thinking. Taking poetic license to express things in ways that make AI fear it will be replaced by humans, the stories in these pages reflect the here and now: a collective urgency as the pandemic recedes, the world overheats, wars overwhelm, and the national discourse is conducted in a language far from love. In these pieces, cooking unites families, supermarkets become places of connection and adventure, neighbors evolve into mermaids as the sea levels rise, and every month nails are trimmed to cut down memory. The smallest gifts in life become impossible blessings of gratitude. There is a sense of battle with the norms and an understanding that things are not right, but they will be. This anthology is evidence of a future worth fighting for in which the long tradition of building community through the written word is upheld during the highs, lows, and everything in between.

Unbidden
Pursuing creative writing seems futile in our modern world—the lack of capital gain, the advancement of artificial intelligence, the rising difficulty in finding originality—but we must continue to let ourselves create and share our work.
What the Lake Knows
Written during a moment of writer’s block, this piece explores the tension between silence, observation, and the desire to create.
Hey, how’ve you been?
Throughout life, people and relationships come and go, often leaving us with lingering questions. In this piece, I explore those unanswered questions and seek closure through the process of asking them.
Vanilla, Pandan, and Everything In Between
This descibes an integral part in my journey to accepting the Vietnamese part of my heritage, eating a traditional Vietnamese cake every year on my birthday.
Things Left Unsaid
In times of despair, there is no one to turn to but the secrets that unfold from the ones you once trusted.
The Scent of Freedom
Freedom is the ability to choose. Choose what your life looks like, and soap gives me that freedom.
How Writing Changed Me
This is a multimedia version of my writing piece How Writing Changed Me to demonstrate how writing made a huge impact on my life.
Aching Open
When faced with the width of the world, what can we choose?
A History of Runners
an ode to running in the form of a prose poem
a poem where she moves her head away after José Olivarez
I have heard that the body remembers what the mind does not. Whoever’s mind this poem is birthed from, I pray that your body heals from this memory.
