Saturday, January 11th & Sunday, January 12th, 10 AM-4 PM ET, NY Peace Institute: Intro to Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices: This January, New York Peace Institute, the official community dispute resolution center for Brooklyn and Manhattan, is offering a 2-day Introduction to Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices Training open to all undergraduate college students in New York City. We are calling for any undergraduate student leaders or representatives for a student organization to take this training.

Saturday, January 11th, 1-2:15 PM ET, College Chat – Scholarships & Fellowships: Getting Funding for School: Girls Write Now is excited to host a panel featuring undergraduate and graduate students, along with Girls Write Now alum, from diverse disciplines, areas of study, and universities. These panelists are recipients of prestigious fellowships and scholarships and will share their experiences in a Q&A format.

Saturday, January 18th, 2-4 pm ET, Literature to Life: I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter: Literature to Life adapts Erika L. Sánchez’s YA novel as their newest title in their Signature Performance series. This title will be co-produced in partnership with Freedom Reads, the only organization in the nation transforming the experience of incarceration by opening libraries in prison housing facilities. Freedom Reads was founded by Reginald Dwayne Betts in 2020. I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter takes place in modern day Chicago. The novel focuses on the idea of finding one’s own identity, and breaking free from societal, cultural, and familial expectations.

Thursday, Jan. 23, 7-8:15 PM ET, Committee on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging: Aligning Communications to Our Values: At this meeting, we will discuss our plans to institute our values of trust, evolution, community, creativity , and expression. What do these terms mean to you and how do you embody them? As we head into our third decade at Girls Write, we want to lay a solid foundation for the next stage.
