IV Committees: Intersectional Voices 

At Girls Write Now, we creatively challenge the status quo in media and our world. From program development to editorial approach to marketing, philanthropy, and beyond, we strive to foster a space that is inclusive of all the brilliant voices that make up our vibrant community. To that end, we have established a suite of committees called “Intersectional Voices” or “IV” Committees, which are all leadership opportunities for mentors, mentees, and members of our core community to take a direct stake in and contribute to Girls Write Now as an organization and community.

IVDEIB Committee: Intersectional Voices in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging 

Committee Purpose:

The IVDEIB Committee is dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable environment within Girls Write Now, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. This committee promotes the integration of DEIB principles into all aspects of Girls Write Now’s operations and programming, helping to establish, review, and make recommendations on plans and policies that support underrepresented groups within the community.

Committee Activities: 

• • Discuss topics and issues that impact our programming and community with fellow community members
  • Give feedback and recommendations to leadership on key issues and policies that impact our community and organization.
  • Help facilitate and curate Girls Write Now’s Community Conversation Series where we hold space for the community to discuss, listen to, and process major events inside the organization and around the world
  • Cultivate DEIB-related resources for our mentees and mentors
     

Committee Membership:

We are in the process of structuring an IV DEIB committee with membership as diverse as possible—”360 degree” diversity in all senses of the word—including stakeholders across the organization, from mentors and mentees to staff, board, volunteers, and partners. 

Committee Meetings: 

IV DEIB will meet on a quarterly basis starting November 2024. Meeting dates:

• Thursday, November 14th 7-8:30PM ET
• Thursday, February 13th 7-8:30PM ET
• Thursday, May 15th 7-8:30PM ET
