It is so helpful to remember we are all doing the best we can, each and every one of us. I appreciate this overview of how to be mindful, to listen to my mentee, to be aware of my own words and gestures, and that the goal is to find a clear way of articulating what must change. Working together is the solution, I think.

I think the idea of asking if it’s a good time to have the conversation is key. That can make all the difference in a relationship, because it may be adding salt to a wound if there are personal problems going on that you don’t know about. I’ve always tried to do this as a mentor and manager and I think its an effective way to maintain a healthy relationship.
