Welcome to Photopoetry: A Synthesis of Photography and Poetry, a mini-course within the Multimedia Tour Journey. Curious about what Photopoetry is? At first glance, poetry and photography might seem like completely different mediums–one deals with the written word, the other deals with visual impressions. Yet, both forms are artistic expressions that have a lot more in common than one may think. Both are concerned with images, but approach communicating those images in different ways. When the two art forms work together, we get something entirely new.
In this course you will learn about composition and angles in photography, delve into similarities and differences between poems and photographs, and explore how photopoetry unites poets and photographers. We will investigate how good photopoems add depth and context to both the photo and the poem while remaining open to interpretation—extending an invitation to imaginative engagement.
Applying the lessons learned, participants will use their smartphones, computers, and imagination to create a photograph in response to a poem—and in so doing, create a photopoem of their own!
