About Girls Write Now
Intersectional Voices
Since 1998, Girls Write Now has been forging a path for a diverse powerhouse of voices across genders, races, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds to uplift the leaders of tomorrow. Our community spread across the nation is loudly and proudly telling their stories every day, and we’re doing our part to ensure they’re heard. As we continue to build on the last three decades, we remain committed to constantly pushing the bounds of our internal and societal imaginations through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and, most importantly, belonging (DEIB) to shape culture, impact industries, and inspire change. In over 30 states across the United States, Girls Write Now matches cis women and girls, transgender, and nonbinary young adults from systemically underserved communities—over 90% of color, 90% high-need, 75% immigrant or first-generation, and 25% LGBTQIA+—with professional writers and digital media makers as their personal mentors. We also serve as a pipeline of talent into schools and industries in need of these fresh and vital perspectives to reimagine a more inclusive world where all people no matter their backgrounds belong.

Our Values
Values help guide us and reflect who we are, aligning our team’s actions and the efforts we lead with purpose, fulfillment, and authenticity. As Girls Write Now grows and evolves, we continually review and evaluate how we state our values in light of what we, in community, hold true. No matter who administers them, our values stand the test of time, holding us accountable to honoring them. They define how, when, and where we are called to act.
Gender Identity
Girls Write Now is committed to centering, supporting, and amplifying voices of those who have been historically disempowered due to their gender and gender identity. Anchored in intersectional feminism, womanism, and queer history, we reaffirm our charge to create space for writing, mentoring, community, resources, and opportunities for the breadth of marginalized gender identities that exist within our community. Girls Write Now was founded to protect and promote their rights for freedom and autonomy of mind and body—especially their stories, long-restricted and silenced around the world.
Girls Write Now will continue to expand our thinking beyond the binary to provide a 360 degree perspective of gender in all of our programs, services, media, and institutional structures, practices, and policies. Working closely with our community—diverse in every sense across the lines of gender, as well as age, race, class, religion, geography, and beyond—Girls Write Now opens up new possibilities for all those marginalized by their gender to be heard, understood, accepted, and positioned to lead change.
