Billboard said don’t miss the April Fools event that everyone is talking about! The Prophets Over Profits 6th Annual Fundraiser “Ain’t Foolin’ Us,” raised money for Girls Write Now this year, and we had a blast doing it! In case you missed it, you can still contribute to this amazing fundraiser by donating:
We enjoyed a day-into-evening femme forward festival filled with art curated by The Locker Room, comedy hosted by Kate Robards & Gloreys Mora, music from local legends Lion Babe, Hot Honey Sundays, SUSU, Big Body Kweeng, Synead, Enomoto and Miss Sabado, and pop-up performances from emerging talents in the Girls Write Now community, Mentees Sheyla Javier and Morgan Lin.
Saturday, April 1, 3 – 9 PM EST
ArtsDistrict Brooklyn
25 Franklin Street, Brooklyn, NY
All Girls Write Now mentors, mentees & alum were VIPs at this festival—with an exclusive Alum Meet-Up from 3-4 PM. Enjoy time to connect with old (and new!) friends, and treat yourself to food, drinks and book giveaways in the alum lounge!
From 3-9 PM ET, all festival-goers were able to dance, sip cocktails by Ilegal Mezcal, mocktails from Curious Elixirs, brewskis from Heinekein Silver, and devour delicious veggie and meat munchies from Beck + Call. We had vendors, games, and photobooths—and hosted fun live interviews on @prophetsoverprofits444 and @girlswritenow on Instagram.
Feeling the FOMO? There’s still time to donate! Every ticket purchased goes right back to Girls Write Now. The mission of Prophets over Profits is to bring back financial transparency within fundraising and highlight talented humans looking to make our world more femme, fluid and free.
Prophets Over Profits (P.O.P) is a Brooklyn-based art collective that raises money and awareness for marginalized voices in need. P.O.P was inspired by the 2017 Women’s March with the mission to empower financially transparent grassroots activism.
Since then, SLOWKEY, a multi-award winning producer, vowed to host annual fundraisers in place of her birthday, donating all “profits” with overwhelming support from other “prophets”. From Brooklyn to the Interwebz, P.O.P has hit over 2.4 million impressions with a goal to exceed $100K raised collectively for this year’s 6th annual event, hosted at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn. Watch our Instagram Live with Dani to learn more about her work, Prophets Over Profits, and the Festival!
Formerly the House of Vans, ArtsDistrict Brooklyn is an immersive venue overlooking the New York City skyline.
